The Boston Red Sox season can only be judged as a success after the team finally returned to the postseason for the first time since 2021, and only the second since 2018. At the same time, with 89 wins and an early exit in the wild card round of the American League playoffs, the Red Sox were clearly a flawed team — meaning that changes will be coming for next season.

Some of those changes have already become clear, with third baseman Alex Bregman opting out of his contract and entering free agency for the second straight year, and several minor leaguers including former top pitching prospect Bryan Mata, expected to walk away in free agency. In some cases, as with first baseman Abraham Toro, they have already done so.
