TEMPE, AZ (AZFamily) — The state liquor department is upping its measures against underage drinking.
The Arizona Department of Liquor Licenses and Control received a large grant to increase enforcement against underage drinking across the state.
The department requested the nearly $170,000 grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety to boost enforcement efforts and support prevention programs. Mill Avenue is one of the focus areas, especially during Arizona State football season when bars get crowded and some patrons trying to get in might not be 21 years old.
According to the department’s letter to the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, over 90% of youth contacted by investigators in Arizona have fake IDs.
