WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - A man who was 23 when he was the driver in a deadly hit-and-run crash in August 2024 was sentenced Tuesday in Sedgwick County Court.

Christopher Johnson was sentenced to 19 months and prison and six months in jail for a crash that killed 43-year-old Tad Doyle in northwest Wichita.

Doyle died from his injuries after a vehicle hit his electric bike early on the morning of Aug. 18, 2024. Police arrested Johnson a few days later.

An affidavit that provided details surrounding the case against Johnson said that video footage from the night of Aug. 18 shows the moment that Johnson’s SUV hit Doyle’s bike.

The affidavit said that when questioned, Johnson said he saw dust fly and didn’t stop, thinking he’d hit a mailbox.
