GASTONIA, N.C. — The Gastonia Police Department is investigating a hit-and-run crash that left one person dead early Sunday morning.

Officers said it happened around 12:39 a.m. that day along West Garrison Boulevard near South Yates Street. According to the department, a dark blue or black SUV hit two pedestrians. One of them, identified as Cody Cochran, later died from his injuries.

Police said the driver of the SUV was seen pulling up to the traffic light just before the crash, continued through the intersection and hit both pedestrians before leaving the scene. The department shared a video from its Real Time Crime Center that appears to capture the suspected SUV nearby on a traffic camera set up along West Garrison Boulevard near Linwood Road.
