TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Tropical Storm Melissa formed Tuesday morning as it moved over the central Caribbean Sea.
According to the National Hurricane Center, Melissa is the 13th named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season. The storm's maximum winds are near 50 mph, with higher gusts.
A hurricane watch has been issued for the southern peninsula of Haiti from the border with the Dominican Republic to Port-Au-Prince.
The government of Jamaica has issued a Tropical Storm Watch for the island.
Heavy rainfall and winds are possible for parts of the ABC Islands during the next couple of days.
Puerto Rico, Hispaniola, Jamaica, and Cuba should monitor the progress of this the storm because of a risk of heavy rain, flooding, strong winds, and rough surf later this week.
