Teenagers age 13-17 can get a Phoenix Public Library card without photo identification, library staff clarified last week.

The change is a minor update to align the library’s recent practices with its official policy, said Deputy Library Director Terry Ann Lawler. Library staff has not been requiring applicants ages 13-17 to present photo ID for a library card, though policy says otherwise.

“It’s just an update to reflect our practices to show what we are actually doing, so that teens don’t feel like they can’t come in and get a library card if they don’t have an ID,” Lawler told the Library Advisory Board during its Wednesday, Oct. 15 meeting.

The board unanimously approved the change.
