It’s been one year since Connecticut endured a historic fall brush fire season that stressed resources for more than a month. The largest brush fire was the Hawthorne Drive fire in Berlin.
That fire burned for weeks and one firefighter, Robert Sharkevich Sr., was killed during the firefight.

Today, Lamentation Mountain, where the fire occurred, is healthy. Despite recent rain, the fire danger is flagged as moderate as we mark one year.
Berlin’s fire chief sat down for an interview with NBC Connecticut and noted that as we look back we also need to look forward to preventing this scale of fire from happening again in the Nutmeg state.
