Connecticut residents who buy health insurance through the state’s Affordable Care Act marketplace Access Health CT are opening letters showing massive premium hikes for 2026.
State officials said Monday the reason for the increase is the Washington gridlock.

The increases come as enhanced federal subsidies, which have helped lower monthly premiums since the COVID-19 pandemic, are set to expire at the end of 2025.
Lawmakers in Congress have not agreed on whether to extend them. It’s one of the main drivers of the government shutdown.
Without those subsidies, some families could see their costs triple. James Michel, Access Health CT CEO, provided the following examples at a Monday news conference.
