CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A first-of-its-kind pediatric care unit is expected to open at Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital in West Ashley thanks to a new partnership between Roper St. Francis Healthcare and the Medical University of South Carolina Children’s Health department.

The 10,000 square foot children’s unit, expected to open in the new year, will feature 16 private rooms and a 1,000 square foot playroom to support family-centered healing and recovery for pediatric patients.

Having this space will reduce patient transfers across facilities, allow for in-house treatment of low-acuity (less severe) pediatric patients, and prevent families from being separated during critical moments.
