It may still be fall, but anyone planning to drive over the Cascades this weekend should keep a close eye on the weather report.
According to a post on Facebook from the National Weather Service in Portland, an atmospheric river is heading towards the Pacific Northwest this weekend, along with cooler air.
“The combination of these two features will cause snow levels to drop to near pass level,” the agency wrote.
Several days out, the weather service said, the actual total amounts of snow are unclear. However, the 48-hour snowfall totals could be as high as 12 inches, “especially in the Central Oregon Cascades around Santiam and Willamette Pass.”
