GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - More than 300,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year, according to the American Cancer Society.

This makes breast cancer the most common type of cancer for women in the U.S. One young woman is adding to this growing number.

Mariana Arango, a 23-year-old graduate from the University of Florida, had just started her master’s program when everything came to a sudden stop. She was diagnosed with stage 2B, triple-negative breast cancer .

“When I heard the diagnosis, I was just staring at my parents, thinking, okay, what do we do now? When you hear the word ‘cancer,’ you automatically think of death. Thankfully, my doctors caught my cancer early enough,” Arango added.
