TOWNS OF CANTON & POTSDAM, New York (WWNY) - Budgets are out in Canton and Potsdam, and a look at the numbers shows different directions, for different reasons, for the two towns.

In Potsdam, the town is seeing the effects of a recent revaluation, where many property values were increased. Some doubled or tripled.

That reval added nearly $400 million to the town’s tax base, a 65% increase.

The flip side of the coin shows the town’s tax rate drops from $1.77 per $1,000 of assessed value to 1.06 cents, a 40 percent decrease.
