JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WTAJ)--The Flame of Hope was carried through the streets of Johnstown by Special Olympics athletes and law enforcement Tuesday evening, marking the first hometown torch run in the region.

The event celebrated local Special Olympics athletes who will compete in the Fall Festival Games next month at Villanova. Starting at the Johnstown Public Safety Building, the torch was carried across town, ending at Greater Johnstown's Trojan Stadium.

"We've never brought the hometown torch run to this region," said Eric Cushing, Vice President of Strategic Partnerships for Special Olympics Pennsylvania. "The hometown torch run is a part of a brand new initiative tied to our longstanding initiative of the law enforcement torch run for the Special Olympics."
