NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans Chief Administrative Officer Joe Threat has alerted city leaders that the city’s cash-flow problems are now worse than expected — and could prevent payroll from being met for the rest of the year.
Councilmembers have called an emergency budget meeting for Wednesday at 3 p.m. to discuss the situation.
Budget Chair Joe Giarrusso and Council Vice-President Helena Moreno are calling on the administration to explain the situation publicly.
The city’s already facing a $160 million deficit, which could mean cuts to nearly every department next year.
We’ll be at that meeting and will bring you updates as soon as we get them.
