A 16-year-old, who is also the grandson of Civil Rights Activist James Meredith, has been charged with murder.

According to WLBT, James Knight, who is Meredith’s grandson, was charged with the shooting death of 17-year-old Saleh Humain.

James Meredith is most known for being the first African American student to be integrated into the University of Mississippi. He made a huge impact on Mississippi and the Civil Rights Movement in the south.

Humain was killed in Jackson on September 17th. Another juvenile was also charged in the shooting.

WLBT stated that in court, records showed that Knight texted Humain about buying vapes with THC in them. Vapes were later found in Knight’s bedroom, according to WLBT.

He was given no bond.
