CLEVELAND, Ohio -- If you are looking for one more garden project, fall is a perfect time to plant flower bulbs in Northeast Ohio.

Spring favorites like tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, crocuses, alliums, and irises all start as bulbs or bulb-like structures such as rhizomes and corms. While most of these plants are not native to North America, they can be a welcome bit of color and scent in April.

But while gardeners love the beautiful flowers that bulbs bring after a long, gray winter, not all bulbs are treated equally by local wildlife. Some are irresistible to deer, squirrels, and chipmunks, while others are naturally unappealing.
