ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - The St. Louis City Comptroller released an audit Tuesday that shows the sheriff’s office was nearly a million dollars over budget in 2025.
The audit says the total budget for the department is $14,467,216, but the department has exceeded that budget by $812,666.
The audit showed four areas of high concern. The comptrollers office says there was inadequate controls over expenditures, inadequate accounting controls and procedures, lack of payroll management and lack of segregation of duties in cash handling.
