TOLEDO, Ohio —
A mid-year report from the Reichle Klein Group found that rent prices for apartments in Toledo have jumped about 41% since 2020.
The report said rent now sits at about $1,055 per month, which is up more than $300 from what renters were paying at the beginning of 2020, when the average was closer to $750.
"You might see our rents overall tend to be lower perhaps than some other areas, but the income that people have is also lower," George Thomas, the CEO of The Fair Housing Center, said.
Thomas said the rent increase is harming a lot of people in the Toledo area. He said close to 50% of Toledo residents are renters. He said the rising costs can push people into poor housing conditions or keep them from finding new places to live.
