A body has been found in the search for a missing bushwalker, after more than a week of rescue efforts in extremely challenging conditions.

Daryl Fong, 30, was declared missing after setting off on a day hike in the Mt Field National Park area in Tasmania on October 11.

He last made contact with a friend about 3am the next day, saying he had been delayed and was planning to seek shelter overnight.

Search and rescue teams have spent the past week conducting a mission in harsh conditions, including waist-deep snow, poor visibility, and gale-force winds.

Temperatures dropped to 2C in Mount Field over the weekend and were below zero on Tuesday.

Tasmania Police recovered the body of a man, believed to be Mr Fong, at about 6pm on Tuesday.
