A fatal shooting in South Seattle near Jose Rizal Park killed a 37-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the head on Monday.

At approximately 4:40 p.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting near Golf Drive S. and S. Charles Street, the Seattle Police Department (SPD) announced.

As SPD officers arrived on the scene, they found the victim with a gunshot wound to his head.

The Seattle Fire Department (SFD) arrived and cared for the victim.

Despite life-saving efforts, the victim succumbed to his injuries, and SFD pronounced the man dead.

SPD officers cordoned off the crime scene until detectives with the Homicide Unit arrived to process evidence from the scene.

An SPD investigation into the circumstances leading up to the shooting is underway.
