OGLETHORPE COUNTY, Ga. — A recent Georgia Teacher of the Year candidate is suing her school district and superintendent after saying she was urged to resign after being placed on indefinite leave following social media posts she made regarding conservative activist Charlie Kirk's death last month.

The suit claims that Michelle Mickens' employer, the Oglethorpe County School System and Superintendent Beverly Levine, violated her First Amendment rights after the high school English teacher posted a quote from Kirk on her private Facebook account the day that he was shot and killed while speaking at an outdoor public event forum at a Utah college.
