TYLER, Texas — The Smith County Commissioner's Court took time Tuesday to recognize a local event helping to find a cure for Alzheimer's Disease.
A proclamation passed Tuesday recognizes the Alzheimer's Association's Tyler Walk taking place at UT Tyler Saturday morning. The walk is one of over 600 nationwide that will raise awareness of the disease, while also fundraising for research.
Organizers say every step taken this weekend is one step closer to a cure.
"Last year we were able to contribute over $112 million towards research, so that's what our walks do," organizer Shannon Trest said. "That's why we walk. We desperately want to find a cure for this disease. Currently, we have medication that slow the progression of the disease, but we don't have a cure yet and that is what we'r
