WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) - Students at McCollom Elementary School became mini farmers on Tuesday at Wichita Southeast High School.

Fourth graders at McCollom Elementary took a trip to Southeast High School to learn all about its Future Farmers of America Program (FFA).

Students learned how to make buttermilk and grow plants. Jenifer Pierce, a fourth-grade teacher at McCollom, says that every year, students say their favorite part of the field trip was holding the baby bunnies and kittens.

"I think it opens a door that may not otherwise open, and just being exposed to all the possibilities that if they see something that they like, if they love animals, if they are interested in agriculture, they might remember, 'oh yeah, Southeast has a great program,'" Pierce said.
