KITTITAS COUNTY, Wash. – Two hikers were rescued near Peggy’s Pond Trail in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness after losing their way in unexpected snow on Sunday, October 19.
The hikers, who were wet and cold with only a blue plastic tarp for shelter, contacted authorities via text-to-911, Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office said in a release .
Kittitas County Search and Rescue, along with Seattle Mountain Rescue and King County Search and Rescue, responded to the call.
The rescue team hiked five miles through challenging conditions to reach the hikers, who were found uninjured.
Authorities remind hikers to be prepared for rapidly changing mountain conditions.
