SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Many residents in the city of Siloam Springs are preparing for higher utility rates in the coming months.
City leaders say it is all connected to residential growth. So much growth, the city is dipping into the general fund by the tune of $3 million to pay for much of it up front.
Interim City Administrator Christina Petriches said Siloam Springs' electric company has been advised by the planning commission to begin buying transformers to support new housing developments.
"After COVID, we started being told that it was going to take at least two years from the time that we order our transformers overseas to the time that we get them," Petriches said.
Those plans for now include nearly 1,200 new homes that are expected to be built in the area. Petriche
