President Donald Trump is facing strong opposition from Nebraska leaders, including the governor, and agriculture producers after suggesting to import beef from Argentina as a potential way to cut costs amid rising food prices.

Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen weighed in, sending a statement to Omaha’s News Leader.

“We have to defend our cattlemen and let the market work,” Pillen said, adding that he has been in contact with the president to ensure he understands the positive state of Nebraska’s beef industry.

Beef prices have increased 30% from January 2024 to 2025, according to U.S. government data .
