MACOMB (WGEM) - On Tuesday, the Macomb Police Department announced Todd Tedrow will fill the shoes of Jeff Hamer while they look for a permanent replacement for the police chief.

On Thursday, Hamer told WGEM News that he planned to retire this year and that his last day would likely be Dec. 12.

Hamer has worked in law enforcement for over 24 years. He said that after he retires, he plans to take a position in the private sector.

Tedrow is a 17-year veteran of the Macomb Police Department.

Macomb Mayor Michael Inman said the search for a permanent replacement will begin in January.
