MANCHESTER, N.H. —

A new study from the New Hampshire Fiscal Policy Institute found that over the past 10 years, the cost of living in the Granite State has outpaced what most families are earning.

According to the report, families are struggling to cover basic expenses, including gas, child care and housing.

"We see that those costs are increasing in a manner that for many of those key expenses, particularly those basic essentials like housing, childcare and healthcare, have outpaced inflation and have outpaced the growth in income," said Phil Sletten of New Hampshire Fiscal Policy Institute.

Comparing 2015 to 2024, the report found that a family of four now has $17,000 less in annual surplus income.
