Victoria coach Chris Scott has urged against "over-reacting" if players are injured during State of Origin.

The dual Geelong premiership coach believes the timing of Origin - February 14 - will ensure the best Victorian and West Australian players are available and that clubs will let them be involved.

A major reason why Origin was shelved after 1999 was because it happened mid-season, so clubs were worried about their best players suffering injuries.

"(It's) likely that, over time, there will be injuries in these games," Scott said.

"I would kind of caution people from over-reacting to those, and acknowledge that that could well have happened in a practice game in Bunbury.
