New York City’s mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani criticised PM Narendra Modi during a Diwali outreach programme for Hindu-American voters while he visited temples across Queens, saying that he grew up with a vision of India that was pluralistic.

Mamdani, while posting pictures of his visit to four temples across Queens to celebrate the festival of lights, stated that his critique of PM Modi and his party, BJP , has been that their vision of India “only has room for certain kinds of Indians.”
