CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — A suspect who fled police is dead after the pursuit ended in gunfire in Harrison County.

State Police pulled over the suspect Tuesday afternoon on what was a routine traffic stop just off Route 20 on Falls Run Road. But troopers say the man took off and led them on a high speed chase. During the chase, troopers reported the suspect brandished a firearm. Eventually the chase ended on Saddletree Road in the Mount Clare community.

According to troopers the man, whose name has not been released, exited the vehicle still holding the gun. Authorities said he was repeatedly ordered to put down the weapon and surrender, but did not heed the warning.
