Around 10 years ago I was making bento-style lunches for my kids almost daily. I was elbow-deep in videos and blogs and food posts about different bento techniques and cute food trends.

I had a drawer full of cookie cutters and sandwich cutters, paper liners and plastic toothpicks.

I learned two things. It can be a whole lot of fun playing with food, and I am not as artistically inclined with food as I am with illustration software. Especially with faces.

Food is a very hard medium.

This past weekend I wanted to have a little fun so I made Halloweenies.

Halloweenies are hot dogs wrapped up in strips of dough, and are supposed to look like little hot dog mummies. You can add eyes with dots of ketchup or slices of pimento olives, but some people use candy eyes meant for decorating cakes
