ATLANTA — Georgia's Department of Human Services acknowledged Tuesday that SNAP benefits for November won't go out until the government shutdown ends.
11Alive checked in with state officials after the U.S. Department of Agriculture notified states earlier this month that there would be "insufficient funds" for SNAP after October.
In a response, Georgia DHS said it has "asked our payment vendor for a project plan on how quickly they can issue benefits once the shutdown has ceased."
DHS will, in the time being, be able to continue to process new SNAP applications but for those, as well, "November issuances will not be sent until the shutdown ends."
The agency added: "We understand how important SNAP benefits are to Georgia families and are closely monitoring the situation."
