OSHKOSH, Wis. (WBAY) - Wisconsin’s FoodShare program is expected to run out of federal funding in 9 days due to the government shutdown.

On the local level, Winnebago County officials are calling on Gov. Evers to offset the impact of federal changes to the SNAP food program.

State and local governments are now required to provide 75% of the funding, up from 50%, after the passage of the federal tax bill.

During a meeting Tuesday night, the county board of supervisors voted in favor of asking the state to provide funding through the American Rescue Plan Act.

Four years ago, the county averaged 1,300 families per month who needed food assistance. That number is now up to more than 2,800.
