A royal commentator has suggested that King Charles may have jeopardised his chances of receiving an honour from Pope Leo XIV due to the appointment of Dame Sarah Mullally as Archbishop of Canterbury.

Earlier this month, Dame Sarah made history by becoming the first woman ever to be selected for the role. She succeeded Justin Welby and received congratulations on her appointment from both Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and King Charles , who is technically the head of the Church of England.

This single factor, according to royal commentator Ephraim Hardcastle, could thwart King Charles' chances of receiving a papal knighthood from Pope Leo, who succeeded the late Pope Francis earlier this year.
