A De Pere resident will be able to move ahead with setting up a gun repair shop in his house despite some opposition from area schools and some residents.

Daniel Farnsworth applied for a conditional use permit for his business, which would also sell firearms online. The De Pere City Council unanimously approved his application for the conditional use permit Oct. 21 and amended the resolution to require Farnsworth comply with local, state, and federal statutes for the shop.

However, most council members said they wished they could have had more authority over the process and had concerns of their own about safety of the shop.
