Police lights

Two masked men tried breaking into a Bergen County home early Wednesday, Oct. 22, in what police believe was an attempt to steal a Range Rover parked in the driveway.

Just after midnight, officers from the North Arlington Police Department responded to a report of an attempted burglary in the Third Street area, Lt. David Hudak said.

The residents told police they heard movement outside and, when they opened the curtains to check, saw two males wearing black hooded sweatshirts, dark pants, and face coverings trying to open a window, Hudak said.

The residents’ presence startled the suspects, who immediately fled on foot, according to police.

Surveillance footage confirmed the pair arrived and left in a silver or gray sedan, believed to be a newer model Kia or Hyundai, with a third suspect behind the wheel, Hudak said.

Investigators believe the suspects were targeting the Range Rover in the driveway. No entry was made into the home, and no damage was reported, Hudak said.

Detectives are working with neighboring police departments to review camera footage and Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) data in an effort to identify the suspects or the vehicle involved.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact the North Arlington Police Department.
