LEETON, Mo. (KCTV) - Law enforcement announced an update to an arson investigation involving a historic church in a rural Missouri town.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office stated that juveniles have been identified as having committed arson in connection with the fire at the 129-year-old Leeton United Methodist Church .

“Due to their age, further information regarding their identities cannot be released in compliance with Missouri law governing juvenile information,” the sheriff’s office added.

‘Hurt and anger’: Historic Methodist church damaged in suspected arson

Leeton sits about 90 minutes southeast of the Kansas City metro and about 20 minutes south of Warrensburg.

The historic church, built in 1896, has been the heart of the small Missouri town for generations.
