A district judge has ordered a psychiatric evaluation for a 22-year-old Cincinnati, Ohio woman accused of killing her mother in Southfield earlier this month.

At a hearing Wednesday in 46th District Court, Judge Shelia Johnson said Riley Donaldson will undergo the testing to determine competency, and set her next court appearance for Jan. 21, 2026 to review results.

Donaldson is charged with first-degree premeditated homicide and felony firearm for the Oct. 5 fatal shooting of Ada Mae Simmons-Jones, 45. As previously reported, Southfield Police Chief Elvin Barren said Donaldson entered her mother’s home in the 18000 block of Bainbridge Drive at around 11:30 p.m. that day, armed with a firearm which she allegedly used to kill Simmons-Jones.
