CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - The American Federation of Government Employees is sharing a warning during the federal government shutdown.

The Union, which represents Social Security employees in Iowa, put out a news release on Tuesday. It warned Social Security is at risk of collapse “as an already small workforce is being forced to work without pay during the government shutdown.”

The Union says employees should be allowed to telework, or work from home.

In the release, the union warns this situation is impacting Social Security workers not only in Iowa, but across the country.
