Sydneysiders can breathe a sigh of relief as temperatures are set to fall from record-breaking highs, while heavy showers are forecast for several southern capitals, including Melbourne and Adelaide, over the coming days.

After experiencing one of its hottest October days in living memory on Wednesday, temperatures in Sydney are thankfully set to feel much cooler on Thursday.

The mercury will reach a top of 22C, a mammoth drop of around 16C, as a cool change makes its way across New South Wales.

Sky News weather presenter Tamsin Green said temperatures would then “climb again into the high 20s” on the weekend before dropping next week.

“There will also be a chance for some rain and showers, from Sunday onwards we could be seeing some decent rainfall in the mix,” she said.
