Minnesota's high court ruled Wednesday that USA Powerlifting discriminated against powerlifter JayCee Cooper by barring her from women's competitions because she's trans. USA Powerlifting claims that Cooper – and all other trans athletes – would have a physical advantage in the women's category.
Cooper initially filed a complaint with the Minnesota Department of Human Rights in 2019, followed by a discrimination lawsuit against USA Powerlifting in 2021, which she ultimately won in 2023.
