COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla — A 56-year-old Lake City man was hit and killed while riding a bike Wednesday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The FHP report said the crash happened at around 6:48 a.m. near the intersection of U.S. 441 and NE Gum Swamp Road at the south end of Five Points

A man in a sedan was traveling north on U.S. 441, toward the intersection, according to FHP, when the bicyclist attempted to cross the road. The sedan collided with the man, who died at the scene. FHP said the driver was not hurt.

The victim had not been wearing a helmet, according to FHP's report.
