BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) -- The Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) met in mid-October to make decisions on several key education issues and hear updates from the Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE).

BESE formed a new AI workgroup. Their goal is to explore how artificial intelligence can be used responsibly in Louisiana classrooms. This will help students learn and prepare for future jobs. The group will be led by Dr. Jim Henderson, president of Louisiana Tech University.

BESE also voted to cut the number of state tests for high school students. The goal is to reduce repetitive testing. This gives teachers more time to teach while keeping academic standards high, officials said.
