BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — The National Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. issued a statement about the hazing allegations at Southern University.

The Beta Sigma Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. was placed under a cease-and-desist order Oct. 17 as the university investigates alleged hazing. The fraternity's national chapter emphasized that if it is determined that members engaged in hazing, they would be permanently expelled from the organization.

The university is investigating in accordance with policies and procedures. All chapter activities were paused as the matter is being reviewed.
