KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee head baseball coach Tony Vitello is leaving Tennessee for the MLB, the University of Tennessee has confirmed.

Vitello will be the first manager in MLB history to jump directly from college to the pros without any prior professional league experience.

The Giants posted about the news on social media, announcing Vitello as the 40th field manager in club history.

The Giants also announced in a release on Wednesday that Vitello is scheduled to be introduced to the media at a press conference on October 30.
