James Madison University said Tuesday it had suspended a fan from attending future JMU athletic events after the person was caught on video heckling Virginia Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears during a football game at Bridgeforth Stadium on Saturday.

Earle-Sears, a Republican running for governor, attended the game between JMU and Old Dominion and was recognized on the field along with Virginia attorney general Jason Miyares, a JMU graduate and Republican running for re-election. Sen. Mark Warner, a Democrat, was also recognized on the field during the game.

The fan in question was recorded shouting “go back to Haiti” and “traitor” at Earle-Sears, who was born in Jamaica, moved to the United States when she was 6, and attended Old Dominion University.
