DOOR COUNTY, Wis. (WFRV) - The Door County Sheriff's Office says that people can now text 911 in an emergency, but that it's intended for specific scenarios.

The service allows people to send a text of up to 140 characters to 911 in any emergency; however, it's intended to be used in a few specific scenarios where emergency help is needed: • People with hearing impairments • People who cannot make a call due to medical emergencies, causing incapacity to speak • If a person needs emergency help, but calling would put them in danger Robbery, Home invasion Domestic violence • Robbery, • Home invasion • Domestic violence • Poor cell reception areas where only a text could work
