PORTLAND, Ore. — Another six men formerly incarcerated by the Oregon Youth Authority are suing the state agency, alleging that staff there knew about the systematic sexual abuse perpetrated by a longtime physician at Oregon's largest youth correctional facility.
Like a number of previous complaints filed against OYA, the allegations revolve around Dr. Edward Gary Edwards, who worked at MacLaren Correctional Facility for decades. He died earlier this year.
There were a number of civil rights lawsuits filed against the OYA in September 2024. In February of this year, Gov. Kotek placed OYA's then-director on leave . Another rash of lawsuits followed , many of them naming Edwards in particular.
