OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Small businesses across the metro are raising prices as ingredient and supply costs continue to climb, forcing owners to choose between stable pricing and staying in business.

Dave Barry, owner of Dave’s Cakes, has sold more than 325,000 cupcakes since opening his doors and managed to keep the same rates for three years. But mounting ingredient costs have forced him to reconsider.

“I haven’t done a thing with my prices. I swore I was going to die on that hill, but I think some foresight is important as a business owner,” Barry said.

Barry’s ingredient costs have increased dramatically.

Flour jumped 40%, eggs climbed 60% and cocoa powder costs 30% more.

“We need to make some adjustments now, before we’re hurting later. Every penny counts,” Barry said.
